JA Mindfulness Coaster - "SIX"
JA Mindfulness Coaster - "SIX"
When I really find myself needing mindfulness, I often completely forget about it, so I made these coasters. When you feel like you're getting negative, and you just don't know what it is (or even if you want to keep your positivity streak going), I hope you look down, see my coaster and snap out of the "daily life trance tornado". I especially hope that this moment is just long enough to remember the message each coaster subtly gives, in the form of art.
SIX Message
Researchers used to think that we would look at some sort of stimulus (let's say a bear), think fear, and have our body change to reflect that feeling (e.g. sweating, heart beating, fast breathing), but we've realized a little hack that I think might help you when you need to slow down - it works the other way too.
We now know we can actually change the way our brain thinks, by changing how our body acts. For example, breathing in for 6 seconds and out for 6 seconds reminds our body that we are calm, because this is how a calm person breathes. This is why this message is called "SIX". I'm hoping, when you get in that "daily life trance tornado" that pulls you from your calm self, try breathing in until you've counted until six and then do the same outwards for six. Keep going and aim for 5 minutes at least if you're not already feeling the effect.
Other things like leaving your tongue rested on the bottom of your mouth and keeping your shoulders relaxed and down can keep you calm. Just remember...
SIX.
